However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaners best that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful.
