The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Be sure to inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaners best that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum mop cleaner robot to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuums that we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
