World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This is the sum of all the leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the levels of the item upgrading. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.

Upgrades to the Best item upgrade add by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade item gauges just like the other methods of rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Furthermore there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or created with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader (glamorouslengths.com) CORE client config.
