WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item upgrader mod level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item upgrading level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item level upgrade (view Funsilo) upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
