How to Replace an replacement audi key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace audi key the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator Spare audi Key to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It's a bit tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is in my area full operation. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.
The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. If you have any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are very cheap and readily available, especially in the case of an Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous problems in your car. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi a3 key replacement because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a typical component across the audi a3 keys 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
