The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as a dirt detector) are both positives.
Be sure to inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles, and wash them when required. Some models will also empty the onboard dust bin and place it in an additional bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuum with mop vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot cleaner mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot mop uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
