Path of Exile item upgrading (great post to read)

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, the player must have the item upgrades in their inventory and access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with strong bases, like Titans from eth, have no changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They provide an attribute bonus, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, gathered in loot, dropped by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will have to select it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade statistics and the necessary component or materials.

There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be put in any kind of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions, which can only be placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are similar to jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be used in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will include their name at the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for instance adding the word Glyph to an item that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor will change it to a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools when a player swaps one glyph by another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which can be swapped freely.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from previous versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it is "leveled out." The cost of upgrading is increased with each level, but the required materials do not increase as much. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the effect of these items, rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This will allow the item to receive new upgrade item components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan’s Energy and it resets to 0 if an upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it will be able to receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The number of affixes that are available will depend on the item's kind. For example, an uncommon or unique weapon that has a standard base will have only two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade item step will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, based on whether the item is at its current level and in what slot it is placed in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.

If an item fails to reach its max level, the NPC will give the player the option of transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with an upgrade set that is different. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of material however it will have less chance of success.

To determine the height of a structure engineers employ an instrument to compare the measurement to a known reference point like a benchmark, or the elevation of the ground. This process is called a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to a high standard of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can drastically increase the strength of an item or damage, as well as other attributes. You can do this through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button when you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be used sparingly.

Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or an similar item. Recyclable items have a gauge that shows the amount of upgrade. The rarity and the cost of upgrading an item determines the amount of level that has been filled.

In the past, certain upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you would be able to get the stats that were important most to your build often than other. This included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for all stats. This could be a positive or a negative thing depending on your needs and wants from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can be equipped with a special bonus that increases the item's power by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are rolled over the standard affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the greater your chances of receiving the bonus of a different kind.

The game also features various sets that offer a set-based bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on an item level upgrade. This is a great way to give the character more power without spending a lot of money.

Many players reroll their weapons and gear particularly in the initial stages. Rerolling is a method to create a more powerful character faster, which allows players to advance in the game and attain higher levels.

Sets

Sets are collections that can be arranged differently. They can be of various sizes, contain no elements at all or contain a single element. They can be utilized to organize data or to sort information. They can also be used to analyze patterns. Sets can be classified in many ways such as size and shape.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom offers an extensive selection of upgradeable set items. Certain items are worth upgrading, others aren't. Armor sets that provide high defense or set bonuses are usually worth upgrading. However, weapon upgrades often do not improve the item's stats much as compared to their purple counterparts. This makes them less attractive to upgrade if your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already extensive.

Certain set items are upgraded to take advantage of their unique procs which can be useful in certain builds. Guillaume's Face face and Aldur's Advance boots are two examples of this. Both were upgraded to Extraordinary Winged Helms and Exceptional Mirrored Boots, respectively. This increased their defense from 217 to 321. (Strength requirements and Level requirements also increased).

Another reason for upgrading certain items is to bring them into parity with their levels. For instance, the Immortal King set has a large level range, from 29 to 76. The upgrade of lower-level items in the set can boost their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.

To see if an item is worth upgrading, players can click the Upgrade button on the screen of their character. This will display the item's attributes, along with the items needed to upgrade it. To upgrade the No-mouth face for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Players can also verify the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.

Generally speaking generally speaking, jewelry and weapons offer better trade value when fully upgraded than armor. Particularly for weapons with spell/weapon damage glyphs and are upgraded to gold is recommended because it will provide a significant increase in their performance. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will benefit from this upgrade as its defense value will increase when it goes from purple to gold.
