The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning robot mop and vacuum schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
