3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuums with mop that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better.
