The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.
Be sure to check your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles, and wash them when required. Some models also self-empty their onboard dust bin into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot cleaner robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot cleaner with mop vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot vacuum that mops mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
