1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum that mops vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum best vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot vacuum cleaner reviews mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
