Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner uk that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
