How to Replace an Audi Tt Replacement Key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It's a bit tricky to test as there are several connector pins, and audi key lost key (g28-Car-keys14338.blog-mall.com) each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). 5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues with your vehicle.
